the Shananigans

I'm a first generation-Canadian, my father having been born in Northern Ireland and most of my family still lives there.

I have been involved with music pretty well all my life. From picking out tunes on a toy xylophone and piano at 2-3 years old, to starting my first formal musical training on accordion at 6, teaching myself how to play various instruments as a teen (percusion, guitar, bass, clarinet, sax, various brass, piano) to occasionally jamming, singing and gigging in various bands as an adult. I can't say I'm an expert with any instrument but more a jack of all trades, being able to pick things up and figure them out fairly quickly. I guess I have a natural talent...if only I could become focused enough to harness it thoroughly!  :-)

I'm currently interested in forming or joining up with a celtic or a 60's-style pop-rock band. Grew up listening to a mixture of celtic, country and oldies stations, even when it wasn't cool. Love the happy, up-tempo music and often lush harmonies! I'd love to find others who share that love and start bringing that type of music back to life. Not just the old music though...would be happy to play new tunes with that old pop-rock style and enthusiasm as well as upbeat traditional and contempory Irish and East Coast music.
